Mark Braun took up Para-athletics in 2001 at age seven. Mark received treatment at Gillette Children’s throughout the course of his life, and was one of the first athletes to compete when the Minnesota State High School League opened events up to athletes with disabilities. Mark Braun is a United States Paralympic Athlete who competed in the Paralympic Games in 2020.

"As a pioneer and to start something like this, you begin being alone. But over time you build up support and you buildup a lot of friends along the way,” Braun says. “There are still significant barriers I’ve had to face, especially when I became an adult. Increased support for adult athletes with disabilities in Minnesota is vital to helping us continue performing at the highest level.”
